What is DoorDash Storefront?

Important update: DoorDash Storefront was renamed DoorDash Online Ordering and is now the foundation of the DoorDash Commerce Platform - the old product URL redirects there, and DoorDash confirms all existing Storefront merchants were automatically transitioned at no additional cost. It lets restaurants (and grocery, alcohol, convenience, flower, pet and retail stores) take commission-free delivery and pickup orders directly from their own website, social media or Google profile, with deliveries fulfilled by DoorDash's Dasher network.

Instead of the 15-30% Marketplace commission, merchants pay only a card processing fee per direct order (plus an optional monthly package for marketing tools). It is designed for businesses that are already DoorDash Marketplace partners - a Marketplace account is required - and want to convert their own web traffic into direct orders without building delivery logistics.

DoorDash Storefront pros and cons

Pros

  • +Easy setup and website integration - a restaurant owner on Capterra: "It integrated well on our website and was easy to set up"; Capterra rates ease of use 4.3/5 (188 reviews, as of March 2026), and existing DoorDash partners can switch it on the same day
  • +Genuinely cheaper channel than the marketplace: direct orders carry 0% commission versus 15-30% on DoorDash Marketplace, so merchants keep more margin on customers they bring themselves (vendor-verified; echoed by merchant testimonials reporting 23-150% growth in direct online sales)
  • +Orders flow into the systems restaurants already run - reviewers highlight the POS integration ("allows us to use our own system for ticket printing and order tracking rather than having different tablets and printers") and no need to hire or manage drivers

Cons

  • −Customer service is the weakest-rated aspect: Capterra scores DoorDash for Merchants support 3.7/5, with reviewers reporting slow escalations and poor communication when orders go wrong
  • −You cannot use it standalone - a DoorDash Marketplace partnership is required, and reviewers note overall DoorDash fees on the marketplace side "add up quickly and cut into margins", pushing menu prices up; extras like tablet rental are billed on top
  • −Menu/POS sync can glitch - a restaurant manager on Capterra reports long-removed items reappearing on the DoorDash-managed menu; also note the tool does not bring marketplace-style discovery traffic, so direct order volume depends on your own website/Google/social audience

Top DoorDash Storefront alternatives

ChowNow

Better if you want a commission-free direct-ordering specialist that is independent of any delivery marketplace - flat subscription pricing, restaurant-owned customer data, and no requirement to list on a competing marketplace app.

Square Online

Better for restaurants already on Square POS - free-tier ordering website tied natively to Square payments and menus, with on-demand couriers dispatched per order instead of a marketplace partnership.

Toast Online Ordering

Better for Toast POS users who want ordering built directly into their POS with flat per-delivery courier fees and full ownership of the guest experience and data.

DoorDash Storefront FAQ

How much does DoorDash Storefront cost?

Storefront is now called DoorDash Online Ordering, sold via Commerce Platform packages (as of July 2026): Starter is $0/month with a 3.3% + $0.30 payment processing fee per direct order; Boost ($54/store/month) and Pro ($249/store/month) lower processing to 2.9% + $0.30 and add marketing tools. There is 0% commission on direct orders, no setup fees, and 100% chargeback protection - but you must be a DoorDash Marketplace partner, where separate 15-30% delivery commissions apply to marketplace orders.

What happened to DoorDash Storefront - is it discontinued?

Not discontinued, but renamed and repackaged. DoorDash's official FAQ states: "DoorDash Storefront is now Online Ordering, part of DoorDash Commerce Platform." All existing Storefront merchants were automatically transitioned to Online Ordering at no additional cost, and it now comes standard with all DoorDash Marketplace plans, with optional add-ons like a branded website, mobile app and cross-channel loyalty.

Who delivers the orders and how do I get paid?

Delivery orders placed through your website or Google profile are fulfilled by DoorDash's Dasher network (pickup orders are collected in-store), and orders arrive on your DoorDash tablet, integrated POS, email or phone. DoorDash pays out via free weekly or daily direct deposits, configurable in the Merchant Portal.

Who is DoorDash Storefront / Online Ordering a good fit for?

It fits restaurants and food businesses that are already (or willing to be) DoorDash Marketplace partners and want to convert their own website, social media and Google traffic into commission-free direct orders without running delivery themselves. If you want direct ordering without any marketplace tie-in, dedicated alternatives like ChowNow, Square Online or Toast Online Ordering are the usual picks.

What is the DoorDash service fee - and do merchants pay it on Storefront orders?

The 'service fee' you see at checkout (historically around 15%, plus smaller regulatory and processing fees) is charged to CUSTOMERS on DoorDash Marketplace orders - it is not a Storefront merchant fee. As a merchant you never pay a customer service fee; on Marketplace you pay the 15-30% commission of your plan, and on Storefront/Online Ordering direct orders you pay only card processing (3.3% + $0.30 per order on the free Starter plan, 2.9% + $0.30 on Boost or Pro).

DoorDash Storefront vs Marketplace - which should a restaurant use?

They are not either/or: Storefront (now Online Ordering) requires an active Marketplace partnership. The practical split: keep Marketplace for the demand DoorDash's app brings you, and switch on Storefront for the customers who already find you on Google or your website - those orders are commission-free (processing fee only), so every direct order you convert saves the 15-30% Marketplace commission. Restaurants that bring significant web traffic report 23-150% growth in direct online sales after adding it.
