What is Olo?
Olo is an enterprise digital ordering, delivery, and guest-engagement platform used by 800+ restaurant brands across 90,000+ locations, including First Watch, P.F. Chang's, Portillo's, and Panda Express. It is not a POS: it layers white-label ordering, courier dispatch, marketplace management, payments, and a guest data platform on top of a brand's existing POS stack.
Since September 12, 2025 Olo is privately held by private-equity firm Thoma Bravo, which took it off the NYSE at $10.25 per share (a deal valued around $2B enterprise / $1.75B equity). It is built for multi-location chains and enterprise brands - single-location independents generally find it too expensive and complex.
Olo adoption: what our data shows
570 of 71,239 unique US restaurant locations (September 2026 scan)
6.4% of the 8,962 locations where we detected any technology.
Olo, an ordering-infrastructure provider, is detected on more locations than ChowNow in our current scan, but on fewer than the delivery marketplaces DoorDash, Uber Eats and Grubhub.
Definition: Detected public website signal (embedded widget, booking link, ordering button or platform script), not a confirmed contract or install. Scan: 238,000+ restaurant websites, deduplicated to 71,239 unique locations in the United States (50 states + DC); September 2026 recount.

Olo pros and cons
Pros
- +Reliable at enterprise scale: G2 reviewers describe order placement as 'error free' and dispatch of orders as working 'without any failures,' with infrastructure that handles high order volumes.
- +Integration breadth is the standout: reviewers praise how Olo connects POS systems, delivery aggregators, and loyalty programs so multi-unit operators centralize operations and data in one place.
- +Day-to-day usability: users call the platform straightforward and easy to use for managing online ordering and tracking orders from stores and third-party delivery channels.
Cons
- −Expensive and heavy for smaller operators - G2 reviewers say 'for startup restaurants it is quite expensive and Olo setup requires high skills and is not easy.'
- −No pricing transparency: costs are locked in negotiated per-location contracts, making it hard to budget or compare before talking to sales (noted on Capterra/GetApp profiles).
- −Support and workflow gaps reported in reviews: delays reaching sales/support, no way to cancel orders or share information with the store from the platform, and a dashboard that 'does not always refresh correctly.'
Top Olo alternatives
Lunchbox
Enterprise-focused ordering platform with stronger built-in marketing tools; in May 2026 it launched Open Payments specifically to undercut Olo by letting restaurants choose their own payment processor.
Checkmate
Better if your main pain is marketplace and online-ordering integrations into the POS - it does that slice with less platform weight and complexity than Olo's full suite.
Better if you already run Toast POS and want native online ordering and delivery without adding a separate middleware vendor and contract.
Olo FAQ
How much does Olo cost?
Olo does not publish prices (as of July 2026). Brands buy per-location 'order packages' billed monthly under a Master Service Agreement, with per-order overage fees above the monthly allotment. Third-party reporting (a competitor's June 2025 comparison) puts entry costs at roughly $1,000/month plus a ~$3,000 deployment fee, but these are unverified estimates - expect a negotiated enterprise quote based on locations, order volume, and modules.
Is Olo a POS system?
No. Olo sits on top of your existing POS: its ordering, Rails marketplace, and Dispatch delivery modules inject digital orders directly into the POS you already run, and Olo Pay handles the payment layer. If you want ordering bundled with the register itself, that is Toast/Square territory.
Is Olo still a public company?
No. Thoma Bravo completed its acquisition of Olo on September 12, 2025 at $10.25 per share (about $2 billion including debt; ~$1.75 billion equity value), and the stock was delisted from the NYSE. Olo now operates as a privately held Thoma Bravo portfolio company.
Who is Olo best for?
Multi-location and enterprise restaurant brands - it serves 800+ brands across 90,000+ locations, including First Watch, P.F. Chang's, and Portillo's. Reviewers consistently say it is too expensive and setup-heavy for single-location independents, who are usually better served by ChowNow, Owner.com, or their POS vendor's native ordering.
Pricing and feature details verified July 2026from vendor websites and public review platforms. Adoption figures come from RestaurantTools.ai's scan of US restaurant websites and reflect detectable integrations only.
